On my mother’s side, Rashi is my 28th grandfather. I’m also a direct descendant of the Ba'al Shem Tov who founded Hasidic Judaism. My great-great-grandfather was a rabbi and his name was Mordechai Elefant. I have also found out that Rav Shabtai Rappaport, the Shach, was my tenth great-grandfather. He was a very important rabbi who wrote a commentary on the Shulchan Aruchch called the Siftei Kohen. On my dad’s side, his grandmother Jolly survived the holocaust. Her family owned a very wealthy fabric company, but sadly during WWII the Germans captured their family and stole all their money. Her brother Joe escaped and is still alive today but sadly Jolly died in 2006.
