For generations, Mashhadi Jews were ”secret Jews” who pretended to convert to Isalm. They had underground shuls, and kosher butcher shops and did secret circumcisions. They had Muslim names and still gave their children Hebrew names. Jewish women would often marry early so they wouldn't get married off to a Muslim when of age. The Mashhad community were mostly in import and exporting of goods, they dealt with fur, gold, yarn and Persian Rugs.
