My family history has a huge back story. I am first going to start with my fathers side. A cool fact is that their last name was originally Aiges but when my grandpa was around 20 years old, he changed his last name to Golan, and when I was around five years old, he changed it back to Aiges. For my mom's side, the Hoadley name translates in Hebrew to glory, but it's really not the meaning of the name because it's not Jewish and it actually originated in England in Wales, This name has been around for hundreds of years. The Hoadley family were Barons in England. The name originated from the town of Hoot, and many years ago we used to be called Hootley, but then over the years we became Hoadley. Later on we emigrated to America and have been living here for the past 400 years. My lovely Grandma, who married into the Hoadley family, was born in Aleppo, Syria and lived there in the city until she was eight years old. My great grandfather worked as a Goldsmith, and my great grandmother was a housewife. A story I always like to tell is that when my grandmother was eight years old, my great grandfather used to pay a policeman monthly for protection so his family could stay safe. Then one month there was a problem because the policeman was sick, so the policeman decided to send another man for my great grandfather to pay while he was home resting. When the policeman was better he was upset because he thought he was going to get paid as well. My great grandfather refused to pay, so the policeman decided he is not going to protect my family anymore. My great grandfather and his family were forced to leave Syria. The reason why my family needed protection was because they had Persian passports, they were not citizens from the Ottoman Empire. So in the end they fled to Turkey and from Turkey they went to Israel. I believe it was all for the best in the end because now my family is safe in the land of Israel, where they were always meant to be.
My American side has been in America for a long time, some arriving in 1620 on the Mayflower. The timeline you see below goes back 10 generations to my great grandfather from the Mayflower John Howland. This timeline shows all my relatives and great relatives leading up to John Howland. Nathaniel Hoadley is on another bloodline but he was the first of the family to come to America from Wales. My family has been living in America for the past 400 years.
